Hello, my name is Steven. I’m originally from Pennsylvania, United States, and I recently fulfilled a lifelong dream of buying a property in the Caribbean, specifically, in beautiful Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic. When my wife and I began looking for a place to invest, we researched various Caribbean islands from home during the pandemic. After months of comparing options, we were drawn to the Samaná peninsula, and Las Terrenas in particular, which reminded us of the natural beauty and tranquility of Hawaii. It felt like the perfect fit, and Cosón Beach truly stole our hearts.

Upon arriving in Las Terrenas in July, we met Marvin and Elizabeth from Atlantique Sud. It was thanks to their guidance that, on the very last day of our trip, we found our dream home right by Cosón Beach.

I was looking for very specific features: proximity to the ocean, a beautiful view, the ability to walk to restaurants and bars, and easy access to town. Our new home ticked every box — and from Pennsylvania, it’s only about a six-hour trip, in the same timezone, which makes it even more convenient.

Throughout the buying process, Marvin and Elizabeth were exceptional. They not only showed us the properties but also helped us navigate the legalities of buying real estate in a foreign country. Elizabeth, in particular, went the extra mile to make sure I understood each step, overcoming the language barrier and ensuring I felt secure and supported. Their network, including a reliable real estate attorney, made the entire process smooth and reassuring.

Beyond the transaction itself, settling into the community has been a heartwarming experience. Despite Covid-19 restrictions at the time, the locals were incredibly welcoming, warm, and friendly people who made us feel at home right away. Every visit strengthens our bond with the community, and I look forward to the day when the masks and curfews are behind us.

Today, I’m deeply in love with my new home. Each beach walk, each meal at a local restaurant, and each interaction with a neighbor reinforces that we made the right decision. Property management is also handled well, a huge relief for someone buying from abroad.

If I had one piece of advice for anyone considering buying property in Las Terrenas, it would be: Come and see it for yourself. Don’t let media stereotypes cloud your judgment. The Dominican Republic is a beautiful, vibrant country with so much to offer, and Las Terrenas, especially, is a hidden gem.
